우리에게 필요한 것 

 우리는 항상 애견과의 행복한 반려생활을 꿈꿉니다. 그리고 알게 모르게 많은 부분을 챙기며, 신경쓰고 보다 나은 방법을 찾기 위해 노력합니다. 시중에 나와 있는 수많은 훈련 서적과 애견을 다룬 이야기들을 보고, 하나 뿐일 것이라 여겨지는 최고의 방법을 찾으려 합니다. 하지만, 그러한 것들을 보면 제일 먼저 이런 생각부터 떠오르지요.  

 "이건 너무 비현실적이야. 훈련소가 아닌, 일반 가정에서 이렇게 하기가 힘들잖아?"

 여기에 저도 100% 공감합니다. 상당히 비현실적 이지요. 제가 항상 말씀드리는, 주인으로써의 자세와 올바른 태도도 마찬가지 입니다.  애견에게 한번 물린 경험이 있는 사람에게 그 애견 앞에서 당당한 모습을 보여주라고 주문한다면, 선뜻 할 수 있을까요? 잊어버린 기억을 굳이 가지고 있는 사람의 눈에서 불안함과 초조함을 찾아낸 애견의 태도는 분명 우호적이지 않을 것입니다. 오히려 털을 곤두세우고, 이빨을 들어내며 자기 방어적, 위협을 하려 할 겁니다. 너무나도 자연스러운 반응에 딱 맞는 해결책이 당당해지는 것임에도 불구하고, 복잡한 인간이기에 비현실적인 방법이 될 뿐입니다. 이런 이야기를 능청스럽게 풀어나가는 저도 애견에게 물리면 순간 화가나서 밀치거나, 혹은 겁을 먹고 뒤로 물러나기도 합니다. 저도 인간이니깐요. 조금 더 현실적인 대안이 필요한 순간입니다.

 제가 생각하기에, 애견과의 반려생활에서 가장 큰 고민은, 아마 견주가 애견을 위하여 자신의 생활 일부를 포기함에 따른 보상심리가 아닐까 합니다. 반려생활, 누구나 키우는 애견과 지내기 위해 시작하였지만, 생각보다 만만치 않은 애견과의 삶에 지쳐가는 경험은 누구나 한번씩 해 보셨을 겁니다. 애견은 위해 자신의 생활을 일부 포기했다는 것은, 절대 반려생활의 모습이 아닙니다. 애견이 너무 짖어서 손님을 들이지 못하고, 공격적이여서 데리고 나가지 못하고, 항상 매달려서 홀로 무엇인가를 편안하게 하지 못한다면, 어찌 행복할 수 있을까요? 20여 마리의 애견과 낮은 울타리 하나 없이 생활하며, 반려생활 상담사를 하고 있는 저에겐 이 모든 사건이 너무나도 아쉽기만 합니다. 정말 그 누구의 잘못도 아닌, 서로 상대에 대해 알지 못함으로써 나타나는 문제들에 지쳐가는 모습들, 사소하게 넘겼던 한 부분만 바로 잡아도 많은 부분을 변화시킬 수 있다는 사실을 누군가는 알려주어야 하지 않을까요?

 어떠한 문제에 대해 그 부분만 따로 빼내어 생각한다는 것은 무의미 합니다. 지금 이 순간만 완화되는 듯한 문제도 무의미 하지요. 이보단 반려생활 전체에 걸쳐 함께 문제점들을 의논하고 대안을 찾는데 조언을 해줄 수 있는 사람이 필요합니다. 컴퓨터 Program 처럼 Code를 수정함으로써 바뀐 상태를 유지할 수 있는 무생명체가 아니기에, 문제점이 아닌 반려생활 전체를 두고 조언을 받아야만 합니다. 그래서 제가 그 역활을 풀어나아가 보려 합니다.
