 어제 도서관에서 빌려온 애견 훈련법에 관한 책에 나온 내용입니다. 마치 가전제품 사용법 처럼 자세하게 나와 있습니다. 마치 뒷면에는 A/S 안내문이 있을 것만 같네요. 위의 글을 보면 뛰어오르는 경우를 잘못된 행동이라고 명시하고 있습니다. 여러분의 생각도 그러하신 가요? 아니면, 전문가 라는 사람이 적은 훈련 서적에 나와 있는 내용이기에 동의 하시는 건가요?

 애견과의 올바른 관계가 형성되면, 가끔 주인에게 도움을 요청하는 때가 있습니다. 그 때 이 훈련법에서 이야기하는 올바른 행동인 앉아서 주인을 바라보는 것으로 도움을 요청한다면, 우리는 어떻게 생각을 할까요? 애견은 무언가 간절히 요청하고 있는데, 이를 바라보는 사람에겐 그저 곁에 와서 자연스럽게 앉아 있다고 생각할 것입니다. 반대로 마구 뛰어 오른다면, 그 이유를 생각하기 전에 잘못된 행동이라 규정하고 엄한 소리를 지르겠지요. 왜냐하면, 애견 사용설명서에 그렇게 나와 있으니깐요.

 우리는 애견을 얼마나 존중하고 있을까요? 법에 명시된 동산에 해당하는 재산의 일부일 뿐인가요? 그렇지 않다면, 우리는 충분히 존중하고 있는 걸까요? 애견에게 문제가, 정확히 말하자면 애견과 사람 사이의 문제가 발생하였을 때, 우리는 그 이유를 고민하기 보다는 해결책을 찾으려고 합니다. 어떻게 그러한 문제가 되는 행동의 이유를 알지 못한채 해결책을 찾을 수 있다고 생각하는 걸까요? 아마 애견 사용설명서의 작동 오류 예시에 지금의 모습이 있기 때문이 아닐까요?

 우리가 애견을 이렇게 잘 만들어진 물건 대하듯 하는 것을 반대로 우리가 당한다면 어떤 기분일까요? 전제 조건은 사람과 애견 모두 존중받아야 할 생명이라는 분명한 사실 입니다. 애견은 유지 및 관리해야 할 대상이 아니라, 존중받고 함께 살아가야 하는 대상입니다. 그렇기에 그들에게 필요한 것은 과학이 아닌, 관심과 노력이라는 사실, 모두 기억하길 바라겠습니다.
